Claims
If something goes wrong
Accidents are stressful enough. Here is exactly what to do, in order, and how to reach us.
Report an incident
claims@shortermcover.co.uk · 0800 000 0000
Lines open 8am to 10pm, seven days a week. Have your policy reference ready. It starts with STC and is on your certificate.
- 1
Make sure everyone is safe
Stop, switch on hazard lights, and check on anyone involved. Call 999 if anyone is hurt or the road is blocked. Do not admit fault at the scene.
- 2
Record what happened
Photograph every vehicle, the damage, the registrations, the road layout and any signs. Note the time, weather and what each driver said. Wide shots first, then close-ups.
- 3
Swap details
Names, phone numbers, addresses, registrations and insurers for every driver involved. If anyone stopped to help, ask for their contact details as a witness.
- 4
Tell us as soon as you can
Email claims@shortermcover.co.uk or call 0800 000 0000 with your policy reference. Reporting quickly, even if you do not intend to claim, protects you if the other party does.
What happens next
A claims handler will confirm receipt, explain your excess, and arrange an engineer's inspection where one is needed. If the incident was not your fault, we pursue the other party's insurer for our costs and your excess.
Windscreen, theft and vandalism
Report theft or vandalism to the police first and keep the crime reference number. Glass-only damage is handled as a separate, simpler claim and does not usually affect the standard excess.
Not sure whether to claim? Ask us and we will tell you honestly what your options are.
